Battery Numatic Henry Review - The Ultimate Cordless Tub Vacuum?

Posted by Matt Besley on 24-9-2018

Battery Henry

Henry and it's commercial siblings must be by far the most commonly used tub vacuums both used in the home and commercially.  There are many good reasons for this, solid build quality, easy to use and maintain and excellent value for money spare parts are just some of the reasons.

We have been trying the new battery Henry in the office for a couple of weeks.  Here's why we like it...

Overall Review Rating                                                              4.2 Star.png

Numatic have been producing battery vacuums for a couple of years now.  In our opinion these are the best battery vacuums we have tried so far. Don't be mistaken however, these battery vacuums simply don't have the suction of a standard mains powered machine.  Expect about half the power from a battery vacuum compared to mains.

So if it's not as powerful, why would you want a battery machine?

  • Daily office or room cleaning where it is just maintenance cleaning on short pile carpets, the battery vacuums are so quick as there is no lead to go and plug back in or worry about tangling around chair or table legs.
  • Daytime cleaning - they are quiet to use and ideal for day time maintenance cleaning
  • Communal areas and areas without power like stairwells in communal flats
  • Stair wells - remove the cable to make it safer

There are many other areas that these are suitable for though.  Cleaning is so much faster without a cable, and the suction is powerful enough to suck up general dust and dirt on the floor.

Ease of Use                                                                                                          4-Star-Rating.jpg

Battery Henry Top

It doesn't really get any simpler than the Battery Henry.  Everything is pretty much the same as the mains powered machine that everyone knows and loves.

The controls are very simple - there is a hi-lo switch, 3 stage battery indicator and a big red button to eject the battery.  Simple.

The only catch I can think of is if at the end of a charge someone pops it back into the cleaning cupboard and forgets to charge it - this will be a new discipline to avoid getting to the cupboard and having a flat battery.

I would also recommend going for the 2 battery kit if you are going to be using this commercially to be able to do a reasonably sized space you will probably need the pair.

Reliability                                                                                                         4-Star-Rating.jpg

Numatic's genuine warranty fault rate with machines is well below 1%, and there is no reason to believe that this machine is going to be any different.  A quality machine at a good price, this machine should last well.  As with any battery they aren't going to last forever, so expect to replace batteries a couple of years down the line.

Maintenance                                                                                                     5-Star-Rating.png

The cable on the Henry is one area that frequently needs attention – so going cable-less is one less repair to worry about.

The main thing, as with any vacuum is to ensure that the main white filter inside the machine is kept clean.  This effectively allows the machine to 'breath'.  If this is dirty then it will have a big effect on the performance will drop considerably.  Also regularly checking the bag and wiping the collection drum of dust and debris is a must!

Value for Money                                                                                               5-Star-Rating.png

The Battery Henry is one of the best value battery vacs on the market today.  Where the Henry wins over other battery vacs is that it takes all the other Numatic spares, including pattern dust bags that are available very cheaply.

Spares and Accessories                                                                 5-Star-Rating.png

There are a lot of vacuum tools that fit the Henry; indeed anything with a 32mm diameter will fit which includes a lot of Numatic and pattern spares.  There are a number of good dusting brushes available for intricate work.  All the spares will be good value for money - the battery will be the most expensive part.

Overall Verdict

Simply this is a great vacuum; using it in our office for the past couple of weeks it has really shown its colours.  What impresses more than anything is the speed that you can work without the obstruction of the cable.  Of course everyone wants a longer run time and a bit more 'suck' but that will surely come in time!
